2025 has been a remarkable year for 1xINTERNET, a year of growth, achievements, and innovation. Our company strengthened its global presence, earned Drupal Diamond Certified Partner status, expanded into the UK, and advanced our leadership in the Drupal AI Initiative, driving responsible AI innovation within the Drupal ecosystem.

At the same time, our team continued to thrive, both professionally and personally. Throughout the year, we prioritised wellbeing, mental health, and work-life balance, making sure that our people could grow alongside the company. It’s been a year where professional milestones and human success went hand in hand.

The year in numbers

Drupal Diamond Certified Partners

One of the major highlights of 2025 was becoming a Drupal Diamond Certified Partner, a milestone that recognises not only our technical expertise but also the dedication and contributions of our team to the Drupal community.

This certification acknowledges the long-term commitment we´ve shown to open-source community. Through event sponsorships, active contributions, and leadership in initiatives like Drupal AI, we don’t just work with Drupal, we help shape its future.

Being core contributors means building alongside the community and shaping the platform’s future. As a result our clients can rely on early access to the latest Drupal innovations, backed by deep technical expertise and leadership at the very heart of the project.

Achieving Diamond Certified Partner status reinforces 1xINTERNET’s role in driving innovation and delivering lasting value for both clients and the Drupal ecosystem. As we continue to evolve, our focus remains on collaboration, quality, and ensuring that Drupal remains a powerful, sustainable choice for digital transformation across industries.

Chair of the Board of the Drupal Association

In June, our CEO, Baddy Breidert, returned to the role of Chair of the Board of the Drupal Association. Having previously served as Chair, Baddy brings experience and vision to guide Drupal’s growth and help shape its future. Her focus is on supporting the Makers of Drupal, sustaining operations, and ensuring the community has the resources it needs to thrive. This is a three-year term, and our team stands fully behind her leadership.

A year of accelerated AI innovation

2025 has been a transformative year for AI, both globally and at 1xINTERNET. As founding members of the Drupal AI Initiative, we’ve been driving responsible AI innovation across the Drupal ecosystem.

Drupal AI Initiative

This initiative has been created in collaboration with four peer organisations and is focused on establishing clear governance, community-driven innovation, and long-term product strategy.

More about Drupal AI Initiative

As AI continues to transform how businesses operate, we are committed to ensuring our clients stay ahead with the most advanced and open technology available.

As part of the Drupal AI Initiative, our Managing Director led the publication of the Global AI Survey, analysing insights from more than 200 global marketing decision-makers and agency specialists.

The report highlights which AI capabilities matter most and provides clear, data-driven guidance to help organisations prioritise their AI investments.

AI expertise talks

Our team shared their expertise on AI throughout the year, presenting at numerous events and workshops:

Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO)

As more people shift to use AI to search and access information, Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) has become an increasingly important topic. Websites now need to adapt to emerging standards to ensure their content is visible to large language models (LLMs). We published practical guidance on preparing websites for AI crawlers to help our clients maintain a competitive visibility in this evolving landscape.

In the new year, we will be launching a free site evaluation tool based on our S1x SIGNALS framework for GEO optimisation. If you would like to receive an early access please sign up to our mailing list.

Client success with smart AI implementation

This year we´ve already started to help our clients integrate innovative AI solutions that automate complex tasks and allow teams to focus on strategic goals.

For the World Cancer Day website, we implemented Drupal AI to make moderation of user submitted personal stories faster, safer and more efficient. Behind every submission is a person and a story worth sharing, AI tools perform initial checks before human review making it easier to handle submissions at global scale. This automation allows the UICC team to spend more time focusing on what truly matters, amplifying their campaign’s core message across global audiences.

Similarly, we supported AuPairWorld in implementing AI to automatically filter inappropriate images reducing the workload for human moderators.

These solutions demonstrate how smart automation can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and free teams to focus on strategic goals.

Custom AI ideation workshops

We have been running specialised AI ideation workshops designed to help businesses strategically integrate new AI capabilities, by cutting through the hype and focusing on practical value. These custom workshops explore specific challenges and opportunities, to help companies develop a clear, actionable roadmap for implementing AI solutions that deliver real business impact.

Web awards and special recognitions

We are pleased to see our clients' projects recognised at the International Splash Awards, held this year in Vienna during DrupalCon meaning a large part of the team could be there to celebrate alongside our clients.

The Union for Cancer Control (UICC) won in the non-profit category, while Maggi won the award in the corporate category.

At the Splash Awards Deutschland & Österreich, AuPairWorld won best project in the Publications, Media & Education category. The project also received an honorary mention for “Greatest Business Case” & “Quality of Execution” a recognition that  makes us incredibly proud.

We also received a major recognition of our work with our client Sharp Europe at DrupalCon Asia in Nara, Japan. Jason Cort of Sharp Europe presented how they built a digital infrastructure on Drupal to support one of the world's most complex B2B operations.

With more than 120,000 employees worldwide, Sharp Europe was at a critical technology crossroads and needed three things: the right solution, the right partner, and the right ROI. They chose Drupal and they chose 1xINTERNET as their partner to lead this transformation.

Company growth and strategic market expansion

This year marked a major milestone, the opening of our UK office in Manchester. This dedicated presence in the North West of England strengthens our ability to serve both existing and new UK clients.

This expansion builds on our proven success with leading UK organisations like the University of Edinburgh and SHARP Electronics and marks a strategic step in extending our capabilities more directly into the UK market.

Our UK operations are led by Paul Johnson, Head of UK Business, supported by James Tillotson who joined our team this year as UK Growth Director. Both are well-known figures in the UK open-source community and bring more than 30 years of combined experience in digital transformation and open-source technology.

New team members and internship opportunities

This year, we’ve been excited to welcome new talent to the 1xTEAM and support young people exploring careers in technology:

  • Eight new employees joined our team, bringing fresh ideas, energy, and expertise.
  • Two interns in Spain gained hands-on experience, contributing to real projects and learning what it’s like to work in a fast-moving tech environment.
  • Two school placements in Germany gave students the chance to see the day-to-day of a technology company and learn from our team.

We’re proud to be able to nurture young talent and give them meaningful, real-world experiences. It’s rewarding to see them grow, develop new skills, and get a taste of what a career in tech can offer.

Web accessibility beyond compliance

Accessibility has been firmly in the spotlight this year, driven by the European Accessibility Act (EAA). We continue to champion accessibility as more than a legal obligation, it's about building inclusive digital experiences that work for everyone.

We have a dedicated internal team of accessibility specialists who continue helping our clients meet rigorous accessibility standards. If your team is still facing challenges or uncertainty around accessibility, don´t hesitate to contact our accessibility experts.

Web accessibility: why it matters and how to achieve it

Health and wellbeing as top priority

At 1xINTERNET, we continue to place strong emphasis on health and wellbeing, running a range of internal initiatives designed to promote a healthy, positive work-life balance. As part of these efforts, our team delivered several talks focused on wellbeing.

A session originally presented internally by developers Norman Kämper-Leymann and Svitlana Fedchenko was later shared at DrupalCon, covering a highly relatable topic: “Leaving work at work: How to successfully finish your working day without thinking about work in your free time.”

Our COO, Diego Costa, also shared his personal mental health journey at DrupalCon in “Leading Through the Storm: My Journey with Mental Health to the C-Suite.”  His story highlights how important it is to openly have these conversations about mental health within the company. Leaders like Diego openly sharing his experience helps to break the stigma surrounding mental health and fosters a culture of openness, support and understanding.

2025 has been an exciting and transformative year for 1xINTERNET, both professionally and personally for our team, and we’re ready to carry this energy into 2026.
