DrupalCamp Ruhr 2025

This past weekend, part of our German team joined DrupalCamp Ruhr in Essen, which turned out to be a great event from start to finish.

Open collaboration at DrupalCamp Ruhr

Almost 100 people gathered at the unique Unperfekthaus, which has hosted DrupalCamps for over 15 years. The organisers created a welcoming atmosphere with excellent food and drinks (yes, coffee and soda on tap all day!)

The camp followed a barcamp style: while a few sessions were pre-selected, most of the agenda was shaped live each morning. This format encourages anyone to step up, propose a topic, and share knowledge if the audience shows interest, true open collaboration like we appreciate so much in Drupal.

Program highlights

Artem Dmitriiev presented the new FieldWidgetActions submodule introduced in AI Core 1.2.0, enabling custom functionality to be attached to any field in Drupal. This session will also be featured on the Open Stage at DrupalCon Europe if you missed it.

Yannick Leyendecker spoke about Figma and Drupal themes, introducing tools that make design and development work more closely together than ever before.

Dr. Christoph Breidert and Baddy Sonja Breidert did a session on the Drupal AI Initiative, covering its journey from the first spark at DrupalCon Atlanta to today’s achievements.

Other program highlights included Christina Chumillas’ keynote "Drupal CMS Now and Beyond", along with many engaging sessions throughout the weekend.

The social side of DrupalCamp Ruhr

Friday afternoon also marked the annual meeting of the Drupal e.V. - The German Drupal Association, wrapping up 2024.

The social side of DrupalCamp Ruhr was also great fun! Friday evening kicked off with the famous Nerdquiz, followed by a community gathering at a local bar in downtown Essen.

Events like these clearly show us the importance of the Drupal community meeting in person, sharing knowledge, and strengthening connections.
