AI Initiative progress in June 2025
In its first month of operation, the Drupal AI Initiative has focused its collective efforts, including key contributions from 1xINTERNET, on four key areas that will shape the future of AI integration in Drupal.
- The top priority was to develop internal processes. Together we established efficient workflows for collaboration within the initiative.
- We worked on creating a clear and actionable roadmap that aligns with different stakeholder groups, including the Drupal community, companies considering Drupal, and Drupal Certified Partners thinking about sponsoring Drupal.
- We developed various marketing and outreach activities raising awareness of the initiative's goals, encouraging the community to participate, and seeking more sponsors and partners. Most notable in June, we participated together with amazee.io, DropSolid, and FreelyGive at the AI Summit in London, where 1xINTERNET designed the booth and a host of promotional materials.
- Of course the initiative members continued with AI module contributions, bringing their unique expertise to Drupal's AI ecosystem.

1xINTERNET’s engagement and contributions
Establishing leadership and meeting culture
We focused on establishing a robust leadership and meeting culture within the AI initiative. We have implemented weekly meetings that prioritize execution over representation, and we managed to align across all activities.
Collaborating on drupal.org/ai landing page development
In collaboration with DropSolid and the help of the Drupal Association, we are leading the content creation for the new drupal.org/ai site section. Our design team provided the iconography, imagery and supporting visuals. All work can be followed in the issue queue of the AI initiative project.
Established weekly marketing meetings
To structure marketing activities, content production and begin development of a marketing strategy we have set up weekly face to face meetings, held on Mondays 16:00 UTC. These serve as a forum to plan activity, ideate and coordinate with what is now a global team. If you would like to join us please make contact on ai-marketing Slack.

Improving contribution and collaboration workflows with SalsaDigital
Alongside SalsaDigital, we worked on improving how the community collaborates on AI module development. We created clearer issue and collaboration workflows, including issue labeling systems, topic categories, and creating issue templates with required testing instructions.
We actively participate in and help to improve the weekly contribution meetings. These meetings happen every Monday at 16:00 UTC on Slack in the #ai-contrib channel as text-only discussions, allowing participants to contribute synchronously or asynchronously.
We've also implemented a weekly planning meeting for the AI module maintainers with the goal to align their work on a regular basis.
Enhancing the development roadmap with FreelyGive
In collaboration with FreelyGive, our team has worked to improve the development roadmap by aligning with different stakeholders across the Drupal community which resulted in a detailed roadmap.
This public roadmap uses standard formats, with the goal of communicating clear development priorities to both contributors and end users. This work can be followed in this issue.
Fostering community engagement
Understanding what Drupal AI users actually need is crucial for the initiative's success. We've created an AI survey designed to identify valuable features that organizations would want to implement for their clients.
1xINTERNET is also providing marketing resources to have regular communication through consistent blog posts to keep the community informed about progress and opportunities for involvement.
Attracting sponsors and AI makers
We've collaborated with the Drupal Association and DropSolid to create a sponsoring model and communication strategy aimed at attracting new sponsors to support the initiative. This collaboration has already shown success in finding new sponsors, with additional sponsors expected to join soon.

Key technical contributions by 1xINTERNET
Our technical contributions have focused on making it easier for developers to add AI functionality to Drupal websites through the new field widget action framework in the Drupal AI module. This module easily allows you to place magic AI buttons all over Drupal’s editorial workflows, and is part of Drupal AI’s 1.2.0-alpha1 release.
We prepared issues for standardized development environments, and then collaborated with SparkFabrik to implement this functionality.
Also, we've created issues for AI logging and observability features, and are working with EPAM on the implementation.
We've provided issues for UI/UX standards for Drupal AI interfaces and are currently implementing prototypes and designs to establish a consistent user experience across all AI modules.
Finally, have worked on Chat UI improvements to provide a better user experience when using the chat and launching it in different situations.
Looking ahead
Now that the foundation has been built, we are ready to accelerate development and increase community engagement. As we move forward, 1xINTERNET’s focus will be on key activities like rolling out the issue workflow, finalizing the public-facing roadmap, creating the first version of UX standards, and collaborating on the next AI release and important functionality.
We will also complete the community survey and communicate the results to ensure our development efforts align with real user needs.
Our current goal is to enable organizations as fast as possible to integrate AI capabilities into their Drupal sites effectively.
We're committed to maintaining this momentum and will continue to report on our progress and contributions in future monthly updates.

How our contribution was organized
After we were really busy in April and May with founding the Drupal AI Initiative we actively started working in June. We allocated 3 of our developers to work on Drupal AI. Every Wednesday we collaborate for a full day and continue whenever project work allows us to work more.
Apart from development we contribute around 3 days per week of marketing and conception. Both the marketing team and the development team are assisted by our design team, where we pull in the resources as needed.
Lastly, we are heavily involved in all Drupal AI initiative activities as we are a member of the leadership team.
On average we provided 2-3 full time equivalents for working on Drupal AI in June.
